The Tregothnan Estate near Truro, home to the same family since 1335, has the largest historic garden in Cornwall. Translated from Cornish it means 'The House at the Head of the Valley’ and at the beating heart of the Estate is the Private Botanic Garden.

Although the garden is not open to the public you may, with prior appointment, visit this amazing Garden. Neil Bennett the Head Gardener or one of his team acts as your guide, discussing the fascinating history of the garden, its impressive plant collections and exciting plans for the future. The tour of the garden finishing with a cream tea in the summer house, lasts approximately two hours.

This is a special experience for anyone, not just garden lovers. Our guests are always spellbound by the scale and diversity of the visit as well as the passion of one family for this incredible living collection.

In 2009 a new tea garden has been included in the walk round, in the magical Himalayan Valley you will now find an authentic 'piece of Darjeeling'
